I stop into Baristas every time I visit New Martinsville. Great cozy house feel in the coffee shop with lots of vegetarian options in a town not entirely known to be vegetarian friendly (the Wal-Mart here is incredibly your best bet to find that kind of thing, although I'd endorse the local grocery store, Witchey's, over it any day). Friendly service, a great atmosphere, great wraps and soups, amazing pizza, and an awesome rocky basement bar downstairs -- all in the weird heart of a half-revived Main Street riverfront part of town that seems long-forgotten in favor the the more modern shopping plazas and fast-food joints uptown from here -- make this place a real find. They have soy milk. There's a scruffy cat that will chill with you on the porch. And there are apparently both folk-singin-type entertainment nights that host both locals and touring artists AND sort of regular bike-club meetings and races/excursions through the hills. I'd love if more businesses in NM operated the way Baristas does. One more thing -- there's a pretty great and informative article on Baristas in the New York Times here: query.nytimes.com/gst/fu…

New Martinsville is my hometown and my favorite! I love coming home to visit family and friends and to eat all the delicious food that I miss. As a teenager, I would frequent Baristas. My high school book club would meet there every week to discuss out literature and drink Mocha Crushes. However, after moving away for university, I had yet to return to Baristas in a veryyyyy long time. Literally, almost 10 years! Wow. My mom and her friend begged me to go to their pub and try their wood-fired pizza. I let her drag me there. I don't know why I was so scared to try it. I'm somewhat ashamed that I'm 28 (I think), and I had yet to visit the famous pub in the basement of Baristas. It was cozy and quaint. Very tiny. We went extremely early so we got a seat at a table right by the fireplace. Now, onto the food. We ordered a pretzel, which was good. Not the best I've had a restaurant and not like one you'd get at Auntie Anne's. It was more bread-like. Garlic-bread-like. Next up, the pizza. My husband and I ordered a medium, which ended up being a pretty big medium. The crust was perfectly crunchy and chewy, the toppings were all fresh and delicious (especially the fresh mozzarella), and the sauce tasted great with the perfect combination of sweetness and tartness. I don't even know if my explanation of what the pizza was like is good enough, but I do know that I'm bummed that I have to wait five-months to get another slice.

Great beer selection, excellent menu and friendly knowledgable staff. They have the only wood fired pizza oven in the the area, combined with a beer selection you won't find at any other local establishment.

Don't order toppings on the pizza. They are a pure rip off and the owner should be embarrassed. I warned you.

Visited July 2011. Very good burger and great, friendly service. Good draught beer selection. Fun atmosphere.

Baristas is located in an old house in downtown New Martinsville. The upstairs part is a coffee shop that's open during the day, but the best part is the pub in the above-ground basement. In the warmer months you can order pizza cooked in the brick oven outside, though it's only available Thursday-Saturday. Very friendly atmosphere, though the pub can get crowded on some nights. Despite the hours listed, the pub usually stays open until the last person leaves.

I love Baristas! The free wireless internet is great and they have a menu with many different and unique options. This is a great addition to the town.
